4 ways to sleep with happier hands
So I’m curious… how are your hands feeling at night when you sleep? 💤
If you’re anything like the people I help, you may struggle with these things at nighttime:
Your hands CANNOT find a comfortable ‘resting’ position and you feel like you’re constantly searching for a hand position that feels ‘right’ 😫
You wake up with your hands all balled up in the middle of the night, making your knuckles ache and throb 😤
After a restless night in bed, you wake up each morning with stiff and swollen fingers 😬
If it feels like I’ve crawled into your brain, here's the good news:
Today I have 4 solutions to help your hands as you snooze.
Let's jump right in! 👇
1. If your thumbs and wrist keep you up at night:
Try out a comfort cool brace, and make sure it’s the long version!
This brace boasts a breathable neoprene material which keeps your hand from getting too hot under all your blankets! It also has a nice compressive, flexible, and lifting support right at the base of your thumb.
The comfort cool comes in a short version as well, but this shorter style is best for daytime use. My clients who have tried sleeping in their short comfort cool braces often find it digs into their wrist too much, so stick with the longer version for bedtime!
2. If your hands ball up all night long and you wake up with stiff, swollen fingers:
You NEED to try out compression gloves while you sleep!
>> Here are my favorite gloves & be sure to use my code ‘CORINNE10’ for 10% off your order!
“But Corinne, I’ve heard compression is unsafe to wear at nighttime because it can cut off your circulation.”
👇
Compression gloves are safe for sleeping as long as you:
Size UP! Seriously, wear a size larger than your regular compression gloves size to sleep in
Flip your gloves seam-side out so the seams don’t dig in or leave marks all night
Try out your gloves for 2 hours before bed for the first time, and make sure they’re comfy and not leaving marks or causing your fingertips to turn blue or puffy
Compression gloves are my personal favorite way to support my own hands at night! I absolutely LOVE sleeping in them in because 1) they keep me from balling up my hands at night, 2) they help my hands find a comfortable ‘resting’ position, and 3) they keep my fingers from that stiff, swollen feeling in the morning 🙌
Another cool thing about compression gloves is that you can pair them with a nighttime brace such as the comfort cool! Just wear them right underneath your brace 😊
3. If you feel like you need the MOST amount of support:
Consider a resting hand splint such as this one. This design supports ALL your fingers, thumb, and wrist in the ideal ‘resting position’ and is perfect for watching TV or sleeping.
Because it’s so big and bulky, ask yourself if you could realistically see yourself sleeping in this before you buy - and if not, maybe try option 1 or 2 first 💛
4. If your hands need a warm, comforting hug at bedtime:
Get yourself some microwaveable hand mitts!
The tricky part about using heat at bedtime is not wanting to plug in a heating pad and have it on all night long (hellow safety concerns)...
...but these mitts are nice because you simply microwave them before bedtime and allow them to work their magic as you drift off to sleep.
